How to configure an external router in opensuse? How could I make this connection work? I tried to google but could not find any relevant information. Furthermore as I can access the net only through a voice modem currently, I can not do extensive queries.
First, its unusual for routers to not work out of the box with zero configuration. Almost all of them do, at some level.
You need to set up your Linux machine to obtain its IP automatically. (via DHCP). Do this in yast.
Then the easiest thing to do is reboot. (Sorry for this Microsoft approach but in this case its easier, since we don't know your comfort level with Opensuse.
It should come up and obtain an IP from the router, probably in the 192.166.1.xxx range. You could also configure your machine to just use an arbitrary ip in that range, such as 192.168.1.5 or something, and again reboot.
Then once you have an ip in that range, open a web browser and key in 192.168.1.254 (nothing more, nothing less).
Thanks! Configuring network with "obtain its IP automatically via DHCP" made the trick! Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
