has anyone been able to get a spell checker for evolution?
how?
I recently moved to the SuSE distribution from Redhat (had it working just fine there) and so I can tell you what components you need with the caveat that I am having a problem making it run on SuSE right now.
You need to install through YaST2 or whatever: - aspell and appropriate aspell dictionary (English, German, etc.) - pspell - ispell
There is some debate on whether ispell is really necessary or not - I already had this installed. If you read the information on Ximain.com about spell checking in Evolution, ispell is not mentioned.
The last component you need is gnome-spell. I could not find this on the 8.0 cd's I burned, nor could I find it in the Gnome downloads on the SuSE site. I did find it here:
http://www.usr-local-bin.org/gnome-spell.php
for SuSE 8.0. This installed fine through YaST2.
It still doesn't work although a search through Google shows evidence that others have had better luck than I; here's a link to the Google search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=SuSE+gnome-spell&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0
I am posting this with the hope that someone on the list has been able to make it work and can share how. Or that your attempt will work the first time.
btw - I can still use Evolution, I just get a seg fault when I start a new message or reply. I click ok and everything works just fine except the spell checking, of course. -- Mark

If you use Ximian you should see most of the packages listed...But I am also not having it wor, says my spelling is fine (unless wabbit is now part of the English language). Might bug Ximian more tomorrow :). Matt
