Saw on Slashdot that Microfocus has sold SUSE to EQT.
Anyone else got any info and how this affects opensuse?
Thanx
Little late to the party Larry? I mentioned this two days ago, and it was old news then.
Well, funny math. The deal was announced yesterday, July 2nd and given that today is the 3rd I am not certain how you get to "I mentioned this two days" ago, anyway...
Either nobody knows or nobody dares say anything. At least not
employed by suse.
Probably updating resumes.
Well I cannot speak for everyone, but my resume will not be updated.
I don't even know anything about the VCs that bought suse.
Well using Google to look up EQT is very helpful. Their website is reasonably informative about the company. You can find out for example that EQT established a new fund this year (2018) called EQT VIII. And from the press release about the acquisition you will learn that this fund, EQT VIII, is the potential new owner of SUSE. Potential new owner simply because the deal needs approval by MF shareholders and needs regulatory approval. All this is known publicly available information. And for those interested it is even possible to find the investors in this fund ;) .
Also in the press releases is that SUSE will be an independent company.
I hope they got nothing else on the back burner, it would be nice to have suse be only a Linux company again.
And that's where this is going, as stated in the publicly available information.
Later, Robert
It's been in financial rumours for at least two months, leaked ahead of announcement by 3 full days. I had MF stock, recently sold, and had been watching this for a while. I've never had any confidence in MF, and only acquired their stock via one of the prior reshuffling. -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail.
