Yep, I was wrong in my assumption that Sun had open sourced Java. They've gone half way. They do keep saying it is their intention to full open source Java though in accordance with the GNU Public License.
Please get your facts straight. Sun has never said it would use the GNU license for Java.
I would not have specifically said the GNU license if I had not read it myself! If I can find the link I will post it on here.
Actually, they are considering it, although they have still not said it's the license they will use: http://blogs.sun.com/jonathan from Jonathan Schwartz' 05/23/2006 blog entry: "we're now making serious progress on open sourcing Java (and despite the cynics, using a GPL license is very much *on* the table)" -- Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) "I am closing down.
