Strange, all modern apps should use fontconfig and xft. Unless you are using some really old apps, in which case you will need to modify ~/.Xresources.
These don't even exist on the system. Whether wmaker is 'modern' or not, I can't say.
There was one nice application I wanted back, okular, which was very good for studying with my etextbooks. Installing it required the reinstallation of much of the kde libraries. So far though, there are no problems with the hotkeys.
I seldom use Libreoffice. I just did a test, and I have no problems with switching to next/previous workspace in Window Maker with the keyboard. However:
(1) I have rebinded all my keys in Window Maker. They all use the WIN key (Mod4- Super_L) as the modifier. This is to ensure that there is no hot keys conflict with any apps.
(2) I am using the latest developmental version of Window Maker. There have been a lot of bug fixes.
YMMV.
I did that. I was happy to see development of it to have been picked up. While it has essentially worked for a decade or better, it is nice to see functional updates. I'd liketo see wmsystemtray added to the distro amoung other things. Ruben
As an aside, you might want to move to the latest version of Window Maker. There are quite a few cool new features added:
