OK... I should mention I'm not using KDE but I can rememeber how it works in KDE... Try going into the KDE Control Center and find the Power Management module (using the search function maybe). There should be some function in there to set how long your monitor wants to stay on.

Hi, sorry, bit of a a hijack, but I have the opposite problem - when I use mplayer (gmplayer or smplayer) the monitor will not go blank and shut off? When I go to the Power management and just adjust the values up and down and save it works again. As if the "process" needs a restart after mplayer was run?
