In order to force all links that open in a new window to load in a background tab...
If its not KDE then its to do with Thunderbird giving up the focus.
I've never actually used Thunderbird, and can't recall ever having such troubles with SeaMonkey. I did install TB once to see what the fuss was about and how it differed from SM. I just don't get why more FF & TB users aren't using SM instead, enjoying the same interop functionality it inherited from Netscape 4, along with SM's smaller footprint. Choosing and installing SM doens't prevent installing and using FF too for whatever little functionality FF has that SM doesn't. I use both, but SM always has by far more open tabs. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg.
