The monitor has 4 colour temperature settings:
4500K 6500K 9300K and sRGB
This is were I went wrong with what I said earlier. It is setting the colour to sRGB which disables the Contrast/Brightness control because it is not needed, but Contrast/Brightness adjustment is available if you choose any of the other 3 temperatures.
Err - I do not see what the color response curve has *anything* to do with brightness. You can argue about contrast, but not about brightness.
So I am now beginning to realise :-) . The screen does look *very* good though through Polaroid sunglasses :-) .
