Now, I am happy to say that SuSE 8.1 now supports my Pentax camera (finally). When I plug it into USB the following happens: [snip] I can then mount the device and copy my photos off etc. I then unmount the device. The question is what should I do then?
FWIW, I use gtkam (supplied with SuSE 8.1) to access my digital camera (an Olympus). This removes any need to poke around with these things - plug the camera in, run gtkam and there you go! I've never needed explicitly to unmount it - hotplug seems to take care of that (I suspect that you are manually unmounting the camera? You don't need to AIUI...). The only thing I had to do was to copy one of the supplied scripts (as described in the manual) to allow access to the device to users (script sets the permissions for the newly plugged device each time).
