[S.u.S.E. Linux] soundcard question

Hi, I have my soundcard driver as a module in the kernel. Whenever the kerneld loads the module, then all volume levels are set to "default" value. I wonder if I can alter this default value somehow, or not. If there is anyone, who can help me, I would be very thankful.
