Now that Gnome 2.4 is out (http://www.gnome.org/start/2.4/) my questions is ... How does one go about downloading and installing this as its own Gnome on SuSE 8.2 (ie... I would like to have the option of either using the gnome I am using now, or logging in and using gnome2.4)?
Your best option would be to use Garnome http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/ Alternatively, I may (*may*) be updating ULB-GNOME to 2.4.0 Of course, I may not have the time to do this before SuSE 9.0 comes out. I would expect the GNOME in 9.0 to be based on 2.4 (if I had my way it would be, assuming that 9.0's not in freeze already) which will make it easier to do the same as I've done with 0.x.y for 8.2 - a drop in replacement/update, which can develop over time. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2).
