Hi,
since a recent update (OS 42.3), after booting my laptop all 8 processors run at 100%.
After googling I found that it may be a program called tracker, and after I killed all it's processes (4 IIRC), all went back to normal. But after a new boot, the same started again.
So I de-installed tracker with Yast.
All seems fine, but I'd like to be sure: does my system need tracker for something or can I set tracker to taboo without any danger?
No danger. You can also customize it. Interestingly, this test installation of 15.1 doesn't have it. Tracker is an indexer. It creates an index of some directories so that you can later search for some content fast. The initial search can be disk intensive, but if it is cpu intensive while you are using the machine it is a bug. It also should not run while the machine is on battery power. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
