We have several machines with openSuSE, both 32 and 64 bit. The solution, I suggested, works perfectly here. Francesco PS the correct syntax is ServerName localhost. I apologize for the mistake. On Sun, May 10, 2009 at 1:42 PM, Dave Feustel <dfeustel@mindspring.com> wrote:

This in not a Maple specific problem. It is a java and cups related problem that affects other applications as matlab. You had to modify the /etc/cups/client.conf file, by adding the line ServerName=localhost. Alternatively you could set the variable CUPS_SERVER to localhost.
I tried that. It got rid of the "No print service" message, but I still got no print output.
Other problems may occur when printing: you see the printer but you get errors after sending the print command.
I never got any printer activity at all until I replaced the JRE.
In this case you had to modify the file /etc/cups/printers.conf by adding for each printer the line "Option orientation-requested 3" before the line </Printer> Francesco
This option is not mentioned in either of my books on CUPS. It may be mentioed somewhere in the CUPS online documentation. I haven't found it yet.
I have no experience with matlab, so I can say nothing about it. Note that nothing I did to my CUPS installation made printing from Maple work. Replacing the JRE did make Maple printing work. Maple ships version 5 of the JRE in Maple 13, so anyone using Maple 13 who cannot print from within Maple should upgrade to JRE 6u13.

Hi Dave, I use it regularly. It works without any problem. I am running Maple 12 on openSuSE 11.1. I also used it on earlier openSuSE distributions. Francesco

Has anyone experience using Maple on Suse? Any comments?
Thanks.
I have been unable to Print anything in Maple until today.
I fixed the Maple print problem ("No print service") by replacing the level 5 JRE embedded in Maple with the level 6u13 version available from Sun. Print is still slow, but it works. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org<opensuse%2Bunsubscribe@opensuse.org> For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org<opensuse%2Bhelp@opensuse.org>
