Hi, I See... You are using VNC ... Not much experience with that one unfortunately. .. only on Micro$oft machines ... I thought VNC was only possible for xterm ... oh well ... Unfortunatly I can't give you any help on VNC .. I only did it with a Xserver on windows called Xmanager ... That worked fine in th setup I mailed ... For VNC perhaps you have to edit kdm-config instead of the xdm files ... not sure ... Question : You want your KDE desktop through something like VNC ... on a windows computer ? or on a Linux box ? I know that if you use VNC on Windows it sends the complete desktop over to the client and consumes alot of bandwith . as for Xmanager it is kinda like a terminal but then graphical. Also the performance is much better! Other advantage: If you use Xmanager or similar the person who wants to work on the server itself can still do this while you get your own desktop on your client. regards Chris _____________________________________________ Make money while you work !!! http://www.degoo.com/index.php?refid=mersco This is for real !!! http://e-mailpaysu.com/members/index.cgi?mersco _____________________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "DJ" <linux_programmer@hotmail.com> To: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 1:11 AM Subject: Re: [SLE] VNC, KDM, Graphical Login

I succesfully managed to login on a KDE desktop on a windows 2000 machine using Xmanager (Win2k)
All I had 2 do was enable XDMCP broadcast on my Linux. I've done this on SuSE 8.0 and 8.1
I believe the file is located somewhere in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/ filename : kdmrc In there you will have to change from false to true:
Thank you. I haven't been able to get it to work --- yet :-)
When I start the vncviewer on the windows client I get prompted for the session password. After entering it, all I get is a window that is the grey crosshatch background, the "x" cursor, and nothing else --- No KDM login. :-(
I am getting in the log window in the local xserver window, the message shown below, but I haven't found anything on that error yet:
"Nov 25 18:06:20 russte08 kdm[1633]: Cannot read from config reader".
Thank you.
