IT WORKS! Grub2 appears to be a moving target, so things appear to be described differently depending on which page you grab. But what I did was add the line: GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1920X1200 to my /etc/defaults/grub file, did grub2-makeconfig rebooted and so far no problems. I set the default target back to graphical target, rebooted and everything came up. I am a bit tired, so I may have missed something, but so far it all looks good. One thing I really liked about openSuse is that if you have your own .xinitrc file in your home directory, after you login, it executes that file and runs the window manager of your choice, FVWM2 or ... Too easy:-) Thanks for all of your help. Now I need to consider how to get my Alienware, that has native HDMI resolution, to link to the WUXGA monitor.
