Recently someone suggested "tvtime-0.9.8.5-1.i586.rpm" It installed just fine . However; this is the error
tvtime: Running tvtime 0.9.8.5. tvtime: Can't set realtime priority (need root). <- does it need to be run as root rtctimer: Cannot open /dev/rtc: Permission denied su failed in a user based X rtctimer: Cannot open /dev/misc/rtc: No such file or directory
First, the latest version is 0.9.9, available at ftp://ftp.funktronics.ca/rpm/SuSE-8.2/i586-f/tvtime-0.9.9-1.i586.rpm You can set it up so that you don't need root. I never noticed this because I had my system set up to allow rtc for mplayer. Do the following: chmod g+rw /dev/rtc chgrp video /dev/rtc Add the following line to /etc/init.d/boot.local: echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq To get it working right away, execute the last line as root. You can also chmod the tvtime executable as setuid root, but I don't recommend it, and I will never make that a default in the rpm. You can find more information about this at http://tvtime.sourceforge.net/help.html#performance Hope that helps. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/XMaX+FOexA3koIgRAo0JAJ98MG6rLTgnJ/pwlsEfoJOq598BvgCgubQ3 ySnBxhhVnfwUhHG34nUwgKg= =W6Gc -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
