Finally after many years of absence I change from Debian /Ubuntu back to what is "now" opensuse (it was really a long time ago :) ) and let me just say that I am very impressed and satisfied with the overall experience and appearance of opensuse.
welcome back.
Thanks :)
But I have an issue with switching back from a tty session to the x11 session via CTRL-ALT-F7 key kombination. Switching from the x11 sessions to one of the ttys works fine. So I was wondering whether this is a known issue (I did not find anything similar in bugzilla)? And how could I easily access the keyboard mapping within the tty, just to quickly check if the keymap in the tty is the same as in the x11 session.
It is possible that you X11 session is not on tty7; try <ctrl><alt><f8> or <ctrl><alt><f9>.
Oh, I was a bit "overprecise" I meant to say that the "ALT-CTRL-F<1-8>" key combination does not work at all, so I cannot switch between tty, nothing happens when I use it. So my suspicion is that for some reasons the keyboard layout changes when I switch from an x11 session to a tty since at least I can change *from* the KDE sessions to the tty, but back to or between the the tty. But I have actually no clue what is going on and that's just a blind guess. Any hints are welcome! Cheers, Andre
I have restarted X and found the new session occasionally on tty8 rather than the normal and expected tty7. And this is probably my own fault for fiddling with more than one desktop at a time.
I am on opensuse 11.4 with a macbook pro 6.2 and I remember that I had some trouble with the Fn keys and used a hid-apple kernel module under ubuntu, but as far as I remember the key mapping was consistent. (A possible related issue that sometimes that monitors hangs on tty after suspend to ram, not getting back to the x11 session)
I have very minimal usage of the *buntu's and cannot help here.
