Tried a few times from winehq but it didn't install. Was missing gecko. New to this.
you say you are new, so welcome..
with openSUSE it is generally not necessary to go to the website of the maker...instead generally we install from openSUSE repositories (aka: "repos"...that way we are sure of the security of the packages we install (and, generally the kinds of problems you encountered are not seen)..
so, in the main SUSE menu find YaST (you didn't declare which desktop you are using, and since there are several i can't give specific directions, but) click the main menu and type in the search box "yast"...give it a second, and went the system finds it and presents the icon, click it..
Two yast icons appeared: one had settings above it, the other had applications. clicked both and got the same result: An Administrator Settings Box. Didn't ask for root password. So I stopped here. Thanks a new window will open, asking for your root (aka: Super User, or System Administrator) password...give it... a new window will open, YaST Control Center...on the left highlight "Software" (it probably already is highlighted) then on the right single click on "Software Management"
a new window will open, and the Software Management will do lots of stuff (for example: it will contact a nearby mirror of the repos, and fetch the list of whats there) getting ready--so, be a little patient, depending on net traffic and the speed of your connection/etc it may take from just a few second to a "little while" (sometimes, but seldom, never)...
when ready it will give you a "Search" block (and lots of other controls and stuff you don't need to look at just now (but, someday)..
type in "wine" and click "Search"
the right side of the window will fill in (with every package with the word "wine" in it)
single left click the box to the left of "wine An MS Windows Emulator" and then click the "Accept" button in the lower right ...
a new window will open listing the "Automatic Changes" becuase you clicked on just one package, and YaST 'knows' it takes several different bits to make wine work--generally YaST knows best, so click "Continue" to accept its selected _needed_ additional packages..
and, wait a little....it will do all the work and then wine is installed..
now, i can't help more because i don't have wine installed, because i don't have or run any Windows programs...so, about all i know it sets your machine up so you can install windows programs...but, i'm not sure how...so, have a read here: http://en.opensuse.org/Wine
again, welcome... dd
