No, it means that the release is Alpha quality. In other words it is not ready for production use and may contain bugs. In software releases you will find many times Alpha, Beta (which is in a better shape then the alpha release and getting closer to the final release) and then the final release when most bugs have been squashed and most features have been implemented.
