I am wondering this also because I am considering playing with Mplayer, which I hear SuSE has also crippled or done something goofy to it, so I want to try a vanilla one.
No, SuSE has _not_ done anything wrong or "goofy" with MPlayer. As Rob Benton has pointed out, ,what they have done they have done for legal reasons.
If you want Mozilla RPMs, check out http://www.usr-local-bin.org . _My Mozilla_ 1.1 RPMs came from there.

Speaking of MPlayer though, I noticed kdebase3-SuSE depends on it. I had planned on recompiling it from source and using checkinstall to make an rpm. If I set the prefix=/usr and --enable-gui will that satisfy the dependencies of kdebase3-SuSE or is there something else? Anybody know?
