That's not the problem.
None of those will work if /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager is ignored.
It has to be done with update-alternatives, and this is not documented in the sysconfig file. And of course, has to be done in text mode.
There is a YaST module available:
zypper se -i alt Loading repository data... Reading installed packages...
S | Name | Summary | Type ---+---------------------+------------------------------------------------------+-------- i | update-alternatives | Maintain symbolic links determining default commands | package i+ | yast2-alternatives | YaST2 - Manage Update-alternatives switching | package pc1:~ #
Yes, I know, I installed it and posted a screenshot. But there are two issues: 1, that lxdm is not registered with update-alterntives and does not appear in the list. This is a bug, I'll try to report it. 2, the operation has to be done in text mode. Ie, close the current display manager, configure a different display manager to start while in text mode, and finally, restart graphics mode. If you do the operation in the desktop, the restart display manager operation tries to close the new display manager, which is not running, then start it while the old is still running... crash. Fortunately, YaST also runs in text mode :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
