Can you try the following command from a console:
setxkbmap -v 10
What are the results ?
dcjohan@linux:~> setxkbmap -v 10 Setting verbose level to 10 locale is C Applied rules from xfree86: model: pc104 layout: us Trying to build keymap using the following components: keycodes: xfree86+aliases(qwerty) types: complete compat: complete symbols: pc/pc(pc104)+pc/us geometry: pc(pc104) dcjohan@linux:~>
And NOW it works just fine! What exactly did that command do, and why?
Nothing special. It allows you to load a different keymap (overide the default configured settings) at runtime. (Try "man setxkbmap" for more) But with this option ( -v = verbose, 10 = highest output level ), it does not change anything but load the keymap as configured in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (I think). Strange... Does it still work after a reboot ?
Do you have a "Error loading new keyboard description" error message ?
no
Thanks for the help; it was just what I needed!!
Glad to see the problem seems solved for you. But I don't think I'm for something here (or it's just by chance.)
