Hello, Just before I lost my typing ability for logging into SuSE I was able to configure My new AIW Radeon card, but that is a different story. If I remember right I used xf86config and chose #45 for the card, I forget the name but it was more of a generic ATI card like AIW SVGA or something. After the set up I was able to use the new version of SAX2 and when I got to the card it showed ATI Rage Pro, I think, and using the properties I was able to go in and tell SAX2 that the card was a Radeon. After that I was able to login to a GUI without any problems. Please be aware that I am still a newbee and that I may have just lucked out. :-) Good Luck, James Ruhsam *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 1/21/2001 at 11:09 PM mhf wrote:
Has anyone on this mailing list successfully installed an ATI Radeon graphics card using XFree86 4.0.2? I am working with another person in the newsgroup who has had success with the ATI All-In-Wonder card.
XFree 4.0.2 is intalled; however, we have not been able to find the right parameters for the config file to make startx work.
Under "device", we have tried inserting both "r128" and "Radeon" but this has only produced similar error messages.
The relevant output messages from the last "startx" attempt are stated below:
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module Radeon (EE) Failed to load module "Radeon" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) No drivers available.
Fatal server error: no screens found
The relevant output messages from "startx" attempt using "r128" as the device driver are stated below:
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error: no screens found
Please help if you can. I've been working on this for 2 weeks with no success. Thanks for your time.
