Hi,
I have Samsung SyncMaster 793DF which supports upto 1280x1024 resolution. While installing SuSE 10.0, it identified correctly and configured correctly as 1280x1024 only. The problem with this resolution is that everthing looks damn small.
As most of the time my box is clocking at 100% cpu, I want to save some cycles by using a light weight window manager other than KDE. I liked Blackbox and wanted to use it. When I start Blackbox the default resolution is 1280x1024 and the xterm is so damn small that I am not able to read it beyond 30 cm from the monitor. In KDE I overcame this by setting the resolution at 1024x768 in the configure display dialogue and applying that setting whenever I login into KDE.
I would like to have the resolution set at 1024x768 in Blackbox and other window managers also. Can someone tell me how to do this? Below is my xorg.conf.

A couple of things you can do. One is to drop down to init 3 and run sax2 to reset your available screen resolutions limiting the max to 1024x768. The other is, if you think you might like the large screen size, is to edit xorg.conf to change the dpi. Most times it's 96x96 or 90x96, etc. Edit this part: Section "Monitor" DisplaySize 310 230 to change the displaysize. I have a 19" monitor and run a 1280x1024 screen with a displaysize of 361 x 271 mm and 90 x 96 dpi. If your monitor is only a 17" then you'll really want to stay at 1024x768. The simplest and safest is to use sax2 to adjust everything. regards, Lee
