Is Docker the golden solution to preserving an old program so it can run 'forever' ??
No. A Docker (or other) container still shares the same kernel as the host. If the old distro won't work on that kernel, or the driver needs to talk to a specific old version of the kernel, then a container will not help. If it _will_ work on the newer kernel, though, then yes, it could help. But there is more probability that a VM containing a random old OS will work than a container. -- Liam Proven - Technical Writer, SUSE Linux s.r.o.
