Thanks - but I don't think permissions are the problem (I never get any "permission denied" type errors. Kword just simple hangs and I have to kill it. I'm gonna try a re-install of Koffice next (whenever I can manage to remember to bring the CDs back into work w/ me...:) Mike ------------------------------------------ Cleary_Mike@emc.com ------------------------------------------ "A wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse." - anon -----Original Message----- From: jfweber@eternal.net [mailto:jfweber@eternal.net] Sent: Monday, July 01, 2002 7:44 AM To: Cleary_Mike@emc.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Kword won't open Kword documents ** Reply to message from Cleary_Mike@emc.com on Mon, 1 Jul 2002 13:34:31 -0400 **I got a new box in my office on which I installed SuSE 8.0. Mike, This is probably stupid , but.... have you changed your user name from one versioin to the next ? I sometimes have pproblems getting old documents of cd backups when they aren't made w/ general or anyone type permissions... ( Although, if you have disk permission and copy , or drag n drop a doc from the cd to your home location ( or desktop, that that is a bit more iffy ) you then gain permission at least to change the permissions on the file, if not total permissions to use the object as pleases you... security actually does seem to be high on Linux desktop usage as well as the Suse folks who should all have Extra karma to burn off when the next changes come out ... ( all those @!#$%&* words tend to require a lot of extra good karma points <G> ) anyhow, I'm sure this is stupid and you've checked it, but perhaps the drag n drop trick would work ??? j afterthought Aibohphobia (n.): the fear of palindromes
