That must be a problem with your hardware, as I don't see that on my 2 9.2 machines. They stay off until I wake it up.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion xz355, using an Intel Corp. 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset Host Bridge, PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0, and during boot Linux has always warned me:

Do you have the latest BIOS update for your machine?
As far as I know (I haven't checked for updates for several months now.)
I have already applied all the updates available from YOU.
What has changed?
It may be a difference in the kernel between 9.2 and earlier. It should be progress, not digress though. I would check if there is a newer BIOS available, it sounds like HP should fix this.
I will check for a BIOS update again (booting up Win-XP to do so will a pain though.) I was hoping there was a simple configuration choice someplace.
