This comment infers that openSUSE has not benefited from the takeover! The openness and community involvement were present before the change?
I'm not sure that's fair. The inception of the openSUSE project did come later than the Novell buy-out, but that does not allow us to validly infer that the original German SuSE company would not have done the same thing. Nonetheless, I think all users of SuSE Linux / openSUSE most certainly have benefitted from Novell's purchase of SuSE. Since I found all the sturm und drang over the Novell / Microsoft deal too much to take and tuned it out, I don't really have an opinion on whether it has (or will (continue to)) benefit the users of openSUSE (or SLES and SLED) or whether it has been (or will (continue to)) be a mixed bag of benefits and detriments. (By the way, programmers are allowed to nest parenthetical statements. We think recursively.)
