Hi, Today I must post another question. It may be silly, but believe me, I tried (today) everything that crossed my mind. I would like to set up a brand new Acer computer (Power F1b) with SiS onboard graphic chip 661Fx. As far as I know SuSE 9.0 (XFree 86 4.3.0.1) does not support this chip. In SAX drop down list is listed, but it does not work. Yes, I know that is supported in SuSE 9.1. For the time being I would rather stick to the old version. So I tried to use 'Vesa-BIOS Graphics', I choosed VESA 1024x768@85 Hz monitor. Then I added 'vga=0x317' in 'menu.1st' in grub directory and had restarted the PC. Well, resolution was set as expected, but vertical frequency was set at 60 Hz. Whatever I have done, I have't succeded to switch the monitor to 85 Hz. I have tried a few different monitors (Hansol 730 ED, Acer V771 even an old AcerView 56c). Modelines, I believe, were correct. Than I got veryyy angry and have installed SuSE 9.1 and have repeated the above mentioned steps. Still no good news. I got only 60 Hz. Then I set up the X system as SiS. All OK. I repeated the VESA setup. This time I pasted the "menu" and "monitor" sections from previously saved XF86Config file. I was dissapointed again (60 Hz). After that I took two diffent PCs, both with SiS graphic chip (630 & 650). It worked as it should to work (VESA mode). I am pretty sure that procedure is correct, but i don't grasp what is being wrong( BIOS ?). Where have i missed ? At the end i took another PC of the same model. Nothing had changed. It took me almost all day, what should be done in a couple of minutes. Maybe i should hide myself for a week or two. Not to forget, i tried 'framebuffer' too. Does anybody see what could be wrong ?
