This might be down to one of KDE's interesting features. A copy of konq is loaded into memory at start up. One can make certain changes and nothing seems to happen. If it's down to that just have one kde window open. Make the change, close konq and then log out and log in again. From memory I've only had that problem with changes to the current view profile. It might also apply to others. If all else fails disable the pre load into memory for a while.
Well, I tried logging out, then logging back in again, but I still get links loading into separate windows, not separate tabs of the existing Konqueror window. I haven't tried disabling pre-load into memory yet, but I don't see how that would help. Surely, the pre-loaded instance would get its settings from where I set them?
