Fred,
What is your take on GigaByte MB's?
I have no experience with them...as well as a few others. I've heard mixed reports from some of the other Sys. Admins. on campus at Cornell. I've tried Intel MOB's and found them to be some of the worst ever made...surprisingly. I first tried ASUS when they first came out with '386 boards, and they were absolute pure JUNK!! I've "spot checked" them since, and they aren't much better than they were then, IMHO.
I used to use AIR for awhile, till they lost their good engineers, then after a LOT of searching and testing settled on Tyan and haven't had any problems since. I have one of the very first P-II BX (100Mhz) MOB's they certified.
I personally prefere ASUS. I have less problems with Asus than TYAN. I really think the AMI Bios from TYAN sucks. One does not have enough influence in the settings. Right now I am using an TYAN and I never had so much problems with a mainboard. There are many small things that I took for granted on ASUS main boards that don't work as well on TYAN (Memory is one of the big things). IMHO. Maybe after your 386 from ASUS you should try a never one.
