I'm monitoring my RAID arrays at regular intervals, and would like mdadm to send me an email if it detects problems. Am I bob@localhost or bob@linux.local? Cron seems to use this second version.
<yourusername>@localhost should work in the default setup. Presumably bob@localhost.

Thanks. That tallies with Carlos' advice. I run rsnapshot (which uses rsync under the bonnet), and when it sends me error messages they are addressed to bob@linux.local. The machine's hostname is barrowhillfarm. My initial guess would have been bob@localhost for internal mail, as you suggest.
If your local domain is configured as "linux.local", I would expect "bob@barrowhillfarm.linux.local" to work too. If your root mail is copied to your user, you could even just leave MAILADDR as "root@localhost".

Ah. I always choose for root mail to get delivered to my local user, so perhaps your last suggestion is the easiest and obvious choice. No need to worry about who I am ;) Thanks Bob -- Registered Linux User #463880 FSFE Member #1300 GPG-FP: A6C1 457C 6DBA B13E 5524 F703 D12A FB79 926B 994E openSUSE 11.2, Kernel 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop, KDE 4.3.5 Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 9600GT -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
