Hi there,
I have joined this thread half way thro so apologies if what I say has already been covered:
If this is a SuSE v8 install, you want to check what options are being passed to the kernel at boot as by default one option is "apm=off".
Hope this helps,
Kind regards,
Simon

The package "apmd" is installed. But, when I run "rcapmd status" I get an "unused" message. When I type "rcapmd start" I get the following message:
"Starting apmd not supported by kernel".
Try first "/etc/init.d/apmd start (restart)"
So, I thought that maybe I needed to compile apmd support into the kernel. I have not done very much in this area, but I next installed all the kernel sources and other files needed by "make menuconfig."
Make sure that the apm daemon is running at startup time (insserv /etc/init.d/apmd or edit the runlevel with Yast Runlevel configurator)
