Note the location of the ppd.gz file was slightly different.
I assume this is because you built HPLIP from the sources or you got an RPM from whatever download source. Usually all PPDs must be located under /usr/share/cups/model/ so that CUPS and printer config tools know about them. Isn't there no symlink from whatever sub-directory under /usr/share/cups/model/ to /usr/share/ppd/HP/?
YaST2 does now show the scanner as being configured, but also as an unconfigured scanner in a separate entry.
