With AcceleratedX 4.1, you have more than 1 install option. By choosing "Minimal Install", you do not overwrite some of the XFree86 installed files. The following fixed the problem: I first removed the XF86 package (using YAST), and then reinstalled it on top of my Accelerated X installation. Then I merely symlinked `X' to the Xaccel server without making any other changes (using my previous Xaccel.ini file). Now xterm behaves normally.
A private msg I received from Ted Harding indicates that installing Accelerated X 4.1 puts in a lot of stuff including an xterm. Just installing the server itself may be the way to preserve the working SuSE configurations.
...Now if only I could fix Xemacs, which is still broken from my Accelerated X installation....
