I use new installation and expert options tab where I tell installer not to install grub. After installation is complete I add entry in existing /boot/grub/menu.lst
better tel it to install grub on the new root partition. so the grub line to add later, in the old good grub that is know to work (old install), is only a chainloader (+1) (clone the windows one if available).
in that way one can change at will the content of the trial partition without changing grub again...

By default GRUB will be installed in boot sector of partition where you install new system, but it will be changed active flag too. This works this way at least from 10.2. So if you want your old menu, you have to change active partition back to old one, as described in previous post. Than boot to that system and add manually entry with chainloader that points to partition with new system. This will give you your old menu first and when you select 10.3 it will pop up new menu. The way I do it will go direct in 10.3, but I can't see and test quality of second menu. I guess that I'll add new menu item 10.3 via chainloader to old boot, just to have that option too. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
