Good day Jim,
How do I tell SuSE that my screen is 12 inch? It seems to default to 15". When I connect my 12" all I get on the screen is green and white lines. The boot screen shows fine. I guess I need to give a command at the boot screen, but what? I'm running 8.1.
I do not think that your screen's physical size has anything to say.
I'm sorry, I didn't make myself understood. I do use X at all on this system. After the boot screen (which works) I get only green & white lines. When I switch to another screen there is only a white line at the top where the log in should be. TIA JIM
What you describe sounds like a mismatch between resolution and refresh rates. Or it could be that you told the installation to use other hardware than what is in your computer.
When you get to the stripes, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and see if it takes you to a text screen logon prompt.
If so, log in as root and start yast (not yast2) and make sure your hardware is correct, and that you have not set resolutions and refresh rates on your screen and graphics card any higher than their specifications.
When you are done in yast, log out and press Alt+F7. This should take you back to the stripes. Then press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, which should restart the graphical environment with whatever new setting you have made.
Best regards
