There have been numerous complaints about the update to Plasma 6.
I believe many of them can be avoided by logging on to IceWM and doing the zypper dup operation. Then reboot and things appear to be normal.
YMMV but it's worth a try. You can select the IceWM @ the normal KDE logon in the lower left corner.
Hope this helps somebody avoid the mess....
