Forgot to ask, don't remember seeing this in the thread . . . does the problem reproduce when logged into KDE as root?
No, of course not; nor as any other user. :-)
Which makes you think it has to do with the with my ~/.kde4 settings
Well maybe not ...
Nor does it occur if I use KDE4-Enlightenment, that is e16 as the WM and KDE4 as the DM
as reported by "ps -ef": anton 475 32445 0 19:11 00:00:00 kwrapper4 ksmserver --windowmanager e16
Please don't ask me to blow away all of ~/.kde4/
Actually, I kinda presumed you had already thought of that. But since you've isolated the problem to your username, and you've reinstalled all the code (I suppose it wouldn't hurt to force a wholesale reinstallation of everything kde & gnome with YaST, just to be sure), that pretty much leaves either a configuration or one of those quirky particular-combination-of-settings type problem. I also presume you've tried the usual steps, i.e., disabling desktop effects, changing the GTK Styles/Fonts settings, returning Desktop Theme/Window Decorations and Style to the defaults, removing desktop plasmoids. You might not need to take as radical a step as rebuilding all of ~/kde4. My guess is that the problem is somewhere in the following: ~./.gtk* ~/.qt* ~/.qt/* ~/.gconf/* ~/.config/gtk*/* ~/.config/qt* ~/.config/Trolltech.conf ~/.kde4/share/config/gtk* ~/.kde4/share/config/startupconfig* ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma* ~/.kde4/share/config/kwin* That's just approx a couple dozen files. If that doesn't isolate it, then all of ~./kde4/share/config. I know, a royal PITA. This process of elimination is the only other suggestion I have, though. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
