Before, I had connections that averaged around 2-3 kb/s. I have the feeling that the problem might be linked to me upgrading from SuSE 5.3 to 6.0, but I'm not sure. I have a 38400 modem and I added the line
setserial /dev/ttyS3 spd_vhi
into /etc/rd.d/boot.local
which worked perfectly before.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be the problem ?
Hmm, the correct place for the above line is /sbin/init.d/serial Please try to use the parameters in there abd check, if it makes a difference.
Good luck,

Lenz, although I am not the starter of this thread or question, your answer
brings up a matter in my mind...putting such a line in the /sbin/init.d/serial
seems to work in my experience. But in recent versions of SuSE (6.0 and
beyond?) a message comes back in the "message" log file (or sometimes on
reboot) saying that the use of spd_vhi is "deprecated".
Any idea why this might be? What would be a better implementation for high
speed modems (above 38400)?
