I dont understand why SuSE 6.4 can poweroff it self when the system shutdown and SuSE 7.0 can not? I try to use the same .config file from SuSE 6.4 to compile my SuSE 7.0 kernel but still no luck...
Check for the existence of /proc/apm... If it's not there then that's probably your problem. You'll probably have to recompile your kernel looking for other options. You might want to check that the 'halt -p' command is working properly. Go to a console (after shutting everything else down), do a 'killall5 -TERM' and then a 'killall5 -KILL', unmount all of your filesystems with 'umount -a', then do a 'halt -p'. If your computer switches itself off then APM is working. Your options are then to either have another think, or to hardcode the 'halt -p' into your shutdown script (/sbin/init.d/halt).
