I have recently installed 7.2 Now KDE2 takes *much* longer to start up after than it did on 7.1 .. I mean a real long time. Anyone else experiencing this or have a clue as to why ? Suse "support" refuses to answer questions about KDE.
What's your configuration (processor, RAM, etc.)? I've got a PIII-667 with 512Mb running 7.2 and it takes waaaay too long for my liking, but my wife likes it. It seems that each new version of KDE starts more and more background services on startup. Not sure why this is, but I'm guessing that it may have something to do with the slowness. I'm pretty sure that some of these services remain up but idle after KDE is closed, so ensuing startups should be a bit quicker....but don't quote me on that ;^)
I can't offer much more than that since I'm a die-hard Enlightenment fan..

I use a humble 166 MHz Vectra with 160MB memory. Under 7.1 it took a minute or so to logon KDE2 Now it takes 5 or more minutes. Yes observing 'top" shows it is starting all sorts of (uneccesary) processes such as "knotify" (which I do not use) etc. etc. Maybe I should try "enlightenment" .. ! But that is not the biggest problem, 7.2 is so full of bugs I cannot believe it has been released. I counted 10 in the first few hours of use some of which are quite serious... I will not be installing it anywhere else. Cliff
