Deactivating hwscan in SUSE 10.0.

Dear All, Earlier there was the command 'chkconfig hwscan off' existing, which just gives an error on SUSE 10.0. Is there a similar command for this system, or it's better not to touch the hal-based services?! Thank you, Pelibali
