I purchased a Maxtor 40 gig Ultra-DMA 66 drive for on my older system. The biso shows it as a 8 gig drive. I have read the newer kernel will read the drive correctly, and I also found a patch. However, I don't know how to patch a kernel or compile and install a new one.
Is there a compiled kernel out there I can download to replace the kernel in my SuSE 6.3 system that will allow it to use the entire 40 gig drive?
I'm sure the kernel that came with 6.3 must support large drives... The BIOS in your computer doesn't really make much difference when it comes to linux, since the kernel doesn't take any notice of the BIOS anyway. You may need to give LILO the correct drive geometry when you install it, and create a small /boot partition at the start of the drive, but other than that there shouldn't be any problems. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
