Valter, I just did something similar. Switched from RH 6.2 to SuSE 7.2. I manually changed most of the users passwords (the ones that I knew) by hand, but there was a bunch that I didn't know. I took their shadow entries and moved them via copy and paste to the new server. 99% of them didn't have any problem connecting whatsoever. (I think that there was only one or two, but that might have been a missing character at the end of the paste...) Some of their shadow entries start with $ and some don't. It doesn't mean that they won't be able to be autenticated. HTH, ============================================ Drew J. Hi, I'm trying to migrate my mail server from redhat 7.1 to suse 7.2. i have already transferred /var/mail and /home, and copy'ed /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow to the new (suse) server. the problem is: nobody logs in the new server. trid to change my password and I logged in. i've noticed that the passwords in /etc/shadow have the $ sign, and my new doesn't. does anyone know how to use the old shadow file without having to change everyuser password? tks in advance.
