I tried to solved it 6 months ago and finally that was the best solution. It's a Seagate failure, not from Silicon Image.
Yes, that is what I am going to do. From all the stuf that I read on the kernel mailing list and other places, it seems that the best option is to avoid the Seagate drives. So I am in the process of getting Western Digital drives.
