I've upgraded my 9.1 to 9.3 and have noticed a marked slowdown (135 messages in Evolution now takes close to 25 minutes to retrieve on DSL, konqueror requires over 1 minute to come up on the screen). I did a new install for / with reiser 3.6 (default) and maintained my /home/* with reiser 3.5. KDE is also slow to load as well. Someone mentioned possible conflicts causing slowdowns in 9.3, how do I check if this is the case?
Mike
Go into Evolution Settings==>mail prefs==>Junk tab and uncheck the check for junk selection. This is forcing all email through a local spam checker which is why it is slow.
And that will fix the "konqueror requires over 1 minute to come up on the screen" problem, How?
The OP needs to find out where all the cycles are going. Is the proper kernel installed for the hardware?
Should be, stock x86 kernel at install time.
Are unnecessary services installed that weren't there in 9.1?
I checked the run level editor, disabled nfs and smbfs client services (the server isn't always on, and I can restart these later if needed.) There was a broadcast dns deamon running that I'm not sure about, and a name caching deamon as well. The system is mot a server or router but a stand alone box on a home network.
What does top indicate?
