Can you add information to the S.u.S.E. faq providing information about the shift in the way 5.3 handles modularized sound? I know it's not an immediate solution for extremely annoyed users, but as it should be there, so users don't get so pissed off and surprised when they can't use the formal kerneld way. Since there are so many different sound cards, we cannot provide a sound module that is working for all of them. In addition to that, more and more people are using OSS. Therefore we have made the decision, to comment out the sound module line in /etc/conf.modules. This is why you still can manually load it, but kerneld won't. We had a lot of support requests from people, who crashed their machines because kerneld attempted to load the sound module on machines which where not properly configured. All you have to do is to reactivate this line in /etc/conf.modules. Look for the string "alias char-major-14" and make sure, there's no "#" in front of it and the second column reads "sound", not "off".
