Have you tried GNU-Linux four years ago (SuSE-6.2 or was it SuSE-6.1, KDE crash, kmail crash, Konqueror unworkable). When I tried the last version of Knoppix (sorry for SuSE) I did not recognize Linux and I smiled when a colleague thought I had Windows XP on my desktop.
Yes, well. The differences between 6.1 and 8.2 are so vast that a comparison isn't even possible in my view and Knoppix didn't exist when 6.1 was out. There is a maturity that has come about in the whole of the Open Source Community.
