In regards to the off-topic threads etc., may I restate a proposal I made previously? This list clearly has a long and wonderful history. I am a very new member of this list and a recent "convert" to SuSE. I have found excellent assistance on this list and have learned a lot simply by reading the thoughts and comments and suggestions of all the knowledgeable members of this list. However, with the growth of the number of users and posts on this mailing list (due in no small part, of course, to the continued success of SuSE Linux!) perhaps the time has come to consider switching from a mailing list to a web-based discussion board or forum such as the one that Gentoo Linux uses (http://forums.gentoo.org/) or the one that Mandrake uses (http://www.club-nihil.net/mub/). The Gentoo board is very new having switched from a mailing list format earlier this year. I mention this merely from an organizational standpoint. These discussion boards have several different categories in which to post messages -- such as "Installation," "Hardware," "Networking" and also an "OffTopic" section. When logging in to the boards, users can click on a "See New Messages" to be able to see a list of new thread topics since their last post if a users wants to stay abreast of all new posts. The discussion board can also be moderated and the moderators can move posts/threads to the appropriate sections if necessary, and can also close posts if appropriate. With this type of format, users could post all the messages they want about the "United Linux" and other similar off-topic threads without bothering those that don't choose to read them or otherwise filling up mailboxes with those posts. There could also be a "FAQ" or "Tips & Tricks" section for experienced users to post "How To" threads on various subjects or questions that frequently get asked. Anyway, just a suggestion. Thanks to all of those who have helped me and all the other newbies out there and have a great weekend everyone (for those who haven't started it already depending on your timezone!). :-) Best regards, Charles __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
